After class on Thursday, I headed straight to Annenberg Hall Studio 3 to join a pre-production meeting for TUTV! Lu Ann’s TA, John, was kind enough to walk with me and help me get situated with others. Upon arrival, I was introduced to a few people and then was led to the back room where several people were writing the scripts on the computers.

Temple Update is a news show completely run by Temple students where everything is written, filmed, edited, and produced all here at Temple University. My role is currently editing film and writing the story tidbits for Temple Update. The time commitment is very intense, but it conflicts much with my schedule, so I am not able to be as much of a part of Temple Update as I would have liked to be this semester.

Keith showed me how to navigate their database and the formatting of how they write the scripts for Temple Update and it has some basic coding elements, which is pretty cool! Since everything was already written, I was told that I would be editing this time and I could write next week.

I headed back to the main studio where a guy named Brian showed me the basics of how to use Adobe Premiere. I have had some experience with Final Cut Pro, and iMovie, so it wasn’t too hard to pick up. I spent the rest of my time there editing clips for a story on WalkTU and from a student Parliament debate.

I wanted to become a part of Temple TV to explore a bit of Media Studies and Production on my own because I have a very strong interest in media and what goes on behind the scenes, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to switch over before I could gain some experience. I enjoyed learning how the script is created and how easy it is to edit as well as how rewarding it is to know that your own content will be displayed for the public. I hope my experiences with TUTV help me be able to figure out if I want to pursue this one interest of mine out of many as a future career!

Time went by so quickly and my two hours was up much faster than I expected! Everyone was so nice, welcoming, and helpful. I absolutely loved editing and knowing that something I created will be on television is such an amazing feeling! I can’t wait to write for the show next week and I am excited to continue to come volunteer with TUTV hopefully for the rest of my time here at Temple!
