My First Time Watching a Movie in 4DX

So you're probably wondering what the heck 4DX even is. To sum it up, it's supposed to feel like you're in the movie with lots of cool effects, including the seats moving! To sum it up, here's a picture of one of those standing ads in the theatre.

In preparation for Dune Part 2's release, Dune Part One is back in theatres! I figured there isn't a cooler movie to watch in 4DX than Dune, and boy was I so right. I was a little nervous at first that it would be too overwhelming and end up spoiling the movie. Thankfully, this wasn't the case at all. Keep reading to find out exactly how my experience went!

Just like all the other cinemas, there is a huuuuge snack selection and custom candy bar! you buy the ticket at the counter as well as your snacks and there was only one person for a huuuge line. When another person opened up the register, a whole complete second line appeared out of nowhere and I was stuck at the back of the first one even though I got there ahead of all of them. The guy was really nice and stopped me from paying because he realized I had a student card. It was really nice and made my day. I feel like most people wouldn’t care to redo the payment and make me pay full price. Last time I was at the movies to see Wish, the woman didn’t ask me about my student card. I had no idea I could use it for snacks AND tickets until today! I actually saw it on the sign and even got it ready, but the whole long line made me forget to even ask about the discount. Such a great start to the experience!

Right off the bat, our seats started moving and there were flashes of light during this big fight. There were 2 fog releasers at each side of the screen. There was a lot of wind, light rain, rain droplets, and lots of vibrations. Sometimes the vibrations felt excessive and other times it really added to the movie. One of the most starting effects was the light jab from the seat when someone got killed or there was an intense fight just between two characters. I used to hate this feeling at the adventure aquarium because it was a smaller metal rod that poked you, but this was the size of a massage chair thingy and it wasnt nearly as powerful. Even though it startled me every time, it never actually hurt. There was also a light plastic piece that whipped your ankles sometimes. This makes a lot of sense considering the dust. The one thing I was really hoping for, which got me excited about trying 4DX in the first place, was that there was no spice sent at all. I think it would have been soooo cool if they filled the room with cinnamon, nutmeg, and other warm fall/winter spices during any outdoor scene in the dunes.

Every four or so seats moved together and it was really cool to see everyone moving in different ways or all-together. It was like a large-scale ride at Universal or Disney, but not as intense. If I had the money, I would do this all the time!

After the credits, there was a special sneak peek of the second part! I was so surprised people still left even though they announced it in the beginning previews. There was a cool selection of clips mainly from Timothée and Zendaya along with other main characters and the director. To end the viewing they had a whole scene, which was definitely a spoiler, but I don’t care at all because it also had all of the 4DX effects!

I stayed until the very end to take pictures of the theatre and just see how it looked out of the dark. It was pretty big and I can’t believe I had an entire row to myself!

It was pretty weird because every row was occupied except mine, but I was sitting right in the middle of the theater and in the center of the row! I swore someone had bought a ticket near me, but maybe not. There were a lot more people than I expected too, since there was just the one taken seat when I purchased my tickets online.

What a neat experience. I’m so glad I’d didn’t interfere with your viewing experience, I’m not sure I would enjoy it. How big was the screen? Dune seems like a great movie to see on a massive screen. Glad you had fun
