We've all seen sugar daddies and sugar mommas try to slide into our DMs or comment on our posts, but the newest scam I've been getting a lot of is from "artists" who want to make a mural of me. The first time I got this message, I was very flattered and thought nothing of it since they were not initially asking for money. Then, the person started contacting me more frequently and I ended up blocking them. Now, I don't know 100% that this person was going to ask for money, but there are many other possibilities, like sending a link later on and getting my IP address.
I'm no stranger to this because I once responded to a "sugar momma" just to see for myself. First, I responded to her Instagram DMs and eventually gave her my phone number so she could Zelle me the money. She asked for proof of how much money I could receive to get my first check. I also gave her my email so that she could mail the check. I double checked all of the information with a friend of mine in Accounting and everything looked legit. However, when I deposited the check, it bounced and was immediately taken out. However, the amount was taken out twice and I was somehow in extreme debt. When I called my bank, the person didn't understand for some reason that adding and removing the same amount of money wouldn't make the balance negative until I explained it for about the 12th time. Thankfully, she understood eventually and I got my balance back to normal. Of course, I ended up reporting the account to the government in the end and I also learned my lesson.
If you haven't seen this scam yet, here are some screenshots of messages I've gotten on my Instagram recently. If you've seen this too, I would love to know! Part of me would like to know what happens if one were to continue the charade, but I've done my time once already.
