How Coronavirus Is Affecting My College Experience

It's only week 2 of everything being moved online and I'm going insane. Campus is completely empty and 2 out of my roommates moved out. Pretty soon, every public building will be shut down. Not being able to go outside my house and see my friends throughout the day is awful and I miss face-to-face interaction so much.

Today, I had 2 classes and a staff meeting and I feel like I've been the least productive I ever have in a long time. Not being able to have sports in-person is also awful. I love being active and I really don't know what to do with myself when I'm home all day. Maybe I'll take this opportunity to go back to the gym more.

I was also the very first Language Tutor to have an online session. It was with my 8 AM regular, and I thought it went pretty well. I really like using the Whiteboard feature on Zoom, so I used that to write notes throughout our session. The only downside of it is that you further lack the feeling like you're talking face-to-face. I really liked having a document to upload to our session though, and it really helped me in writing the session notes too.

Obviously, the upside of having sessions online is that there is no commute. Even if I had a 10-minute (at most) walk to the library from my class or apartment, having no commute at all felt great--at first... It turns out that actually having somewhere to be provides much more motivation to get out of bed. I feel like it now takes everything in me to get up, put some real clothes on, and go to my desk. One day, I might end up just doing sessions sitting on my bed because that's what my students do too. I know you're not supposed to do homework on your bed so that you can fall asleep better. Apparently having your bed set as a place only for rest allows your brain to flip the switch more easily when it's time to go to sleep. I'm a culprit of doing homework in bed or spending hours on my phone before truly getting up and starting my day. Now that working from home is my life, I know I'll have to actually try implementing this into my weekly routine.

I also want to continue getting properly dressed for the day to make my day feel more purposeful. I know YouTubers usually wear something nice on top but remain in their pajama bottoms since viewers can't see them. I'm sure people will start to do this too now that we can be more lazy, but I want to set a hard goal for myself not to do so.
