Sports

Maintaining physical fitness has been important to me since I started playing volleyball in high school. During the initial pandemic phase in April 2020, I started working out every single day in my room. As restrictions lifted and we all started returning to in-person school and work, my free time is less spent at the gym. Still, I try to make an effort to be physically active even when traveling abroad.

I was never a fan of gym class or any athletic activity other than playing Just Dance for the Wii. It wasn't until sophomore year of high school that I started playing sports, and it was only because of FOMO; My entire friend group decided to play volleyball in the fall, so I joined the team as well. At first, I hated the burning sensation on her forearms from receiving hard serves and would close my eyes any time the ball came close.

In 2019, I captained an intramural team that became champions of the school! As intramural winners, we were entered in an extramural tournament called "City 6," where the intramural champs of 6 schools in the Philadelphia area played against each other. In the end, we came out victorious again and had 2 championship wins!

My love for volleyball has never feigned, but I found a new love for ultimate frisbee as well. I wasn't serious about playing until I got to college. I originally tried out for the volleyball club team, where there was over 100 athletes vying for a spot. When I didn't make the team, I tried out for frisbee and immediately found a home in the sport. I played all four years of undergraduate school and even started coaching the summer before senior year!

I first started coaching after my teammate and friend, J'Lynn, asked the Temple Women's club team if anyone wanted to volunteer to coach Philadelphia's PHLY league (ages 10-14). I went on help coach the under-20 league—Philly Forge—the same summer, who came out as the champions of the Northeast Classic tournament at Randall's Island, NY. In addition, I was brought on by the Philadelphia Area Disc Alliance (PADA) for a paid position coaching week-long summer camps.

Over the summer of 2022, I served as an Assistant Coach and Team Manager for ColorBomb's debut season. I originally intended to be a rostered player, but experienced an 8-week long concussion. Tasked with making roster decisions; adding players to USAU; conducting jersey orders; collecting dues; arranging hotels/carpools for each tournament; and much more, I fully learned all the ropes of the administrative side.
